Expanding Horizons is a student-driven initiative under the guidance of Western Native Voice, dedicated to empowering Native American youth across Montana. Our mission is to cultivate leadership, preserve tribal identity, and bridge connections between tribal and urban Native communities.

We aim to inspire Native youth to lead with purpose and identity, fostering a generation that is culturally grounded and civically engaged.

  • Youth Leadership Boards: We have established Middle School and High School Student Boards, providing platforms for students to develop leadership skills, voice their opinions, and connect with peers.
  • Educational Outreach: Our Fall 2025 High School Tour offers engaging presentations on government, civic engagement, Native American history, and Montana history. We also invite educators to join our Teacher Guidance Board to shape programming that aligns with school curricula.
  • Annual Events:
    • Youth Capitol Experience: Students gain firsthand insight into the Montana legislative process, learning about bill-making and providing testimony.
    • Summer Youth Camp: A two-week immersive experience introducing students to college life while engaging in our core programs.
    • Mid-Winter Conference: A three-day event featuring networking opportunities, motivational speakers, cultural activities, and hands-on learning.
  • Holistic Development: Our programs encompass civic education, leadership development, civic engagement, and public policy advocacy. Students participate in workshops on cultural identity, mental health and wellness, traditional games, and Native American history.

Through initiatives like the Expanding Horizons Beyond Survival Youth Conference, we have empowered over 60 Indigenous youth, providing them with tools and inspiration to thrive. Keynote speakers like Chris Romulo and special guests like Rebekah Jarvey have shared their journeys, motivating attendees to overcome challenges and pursue their dreams.

By investing in Native youth, we are building stronger communities and ensuring that the voices of Indigenous peoples are heard and respected in all facets of society.
