Guided by the needs of the communities we serve, we address a broad spectrum of issues, including:
- Language and cultural preservation
- Suicide prevention
- Tribal sovereignty
- Voting rights
- Access to quality healthcare and education
- Affordable and nutritious food

A Voice at the Montana State Legislature
Western Native Voice maintains a strong presence at the Montana State Legislature. Our staff and members work together to hold elected officials accountable, ensuring that Native priorities are addressed effectively. By building relationships with Native and non-Native allies—including tribal governments, tribal colleges, and community organizations—we amplify our collective voice.
Empowering Community Action
Our success depends on the strength and involvement of our members. We host citizen action trainings and organize hearings and action days, providing opportunities for individuals to become engaged and confident advocates. From one-on-one discussions with leaders and elected officials to collaborative work with allies, we help empower members to create meaningful change.
Join us in advancing justice, equality, and opportunity for Native communities across Montana. Together, we can ensure that every voice is heard.
Goals of the Advocacy Program:
- Building Strong Alliances: Cultivate support for Native issues by collaborating with allies, partners, and organizations
- Engaging Native Constituents: Keep Native communities informed and involved in advocacy efforts through transparent communication.
- Maintaining Legislative Relationships: Establish ongoing dialogue with legislative leaders to ensure Native priorities are represented.
- Monitoring Key Legislation: Track and analyze votes on bills that directly impact Indian Country to hold policymakers accountable.
- Securing Resources: Advocate for increased funding for Native communities and organizations to improve essential services and opportunities.
- Championing Positive Legislation: Support policies that uplift Native American families and actively oppose those that threaten the rights of Montanans.
- Elevating Native Perspectives: Ensure Native voices are represented at every level of policymaking and in state and federal budget discussions.
- Partnering for Progress: Work closely with the Montana American Indian Caucus and other elected officials to advance shared goals and initiatives.
“What guides our work is the direct action of tribal community members to create and implement change from their families to the policy level. The community change that is desired needs to come from the voices of those who are directly impacted by the policies.”
